Both Stephen Nover and Marc David are backing Cleveland on Friday, creating one of the more notable consensus positions on the board.
Nover’s handicap begins with the starting-pitching advantage. Chicago rookie Noah Schultz enters 3-8 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, while Cleveland counters with Parker Messick, who is 8-6 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.06 WHIP.
Messick has been even better away from home, recording a 2.20 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 10 road starts. Nover also points to Cleveland’s superior, rested bullpen and Chicago returning home immediately after a four-hour, 12-11 loss to Boston.
David arrives at the same conclusion, emphasizing Schultz’s difficulty pitching deep into games and the possibility of exposing a taxed White Sox bullpen. He also highlights Messick as one of baseball’s most consistent starters this season.

The strongest consensus on Friday’s board may belong to the Atlanta Dream, with Jimmy Boyd, Brian Bitler, Matt Sullivan and Sal Michaels all laying the points.
Boyd supplies the most detailed statistical argument. Both teams are 7-3 over their last 10, but Atlanta has averaged 93.2 points per game with a 112 offensive rating, compared with Washington’s 79.6 points and 105.3 offensive rating.
That represents a massive 13.6-point scoring gap between teams with identical recent records. Atlanta also has the superior recent net rating and three legitimate scoring threats in Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and Angel Reese.
Bitler sees a potential buy-low situation. Washington has covered six straight, while bettors had soured on Atlanta following a stretch in which the Dream failed to cover eight of nine before their most recent victory.
Sullivan and Michaels independently join them on Atlanta at -4½.

Jones points to Colorado’s pitching as the biggest mismatch. The Rockies have allowed 5.8 runs per game and entered with a 4.96 bullpen ERA.
Starter Ryan Feltner owns a 5.75 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, including a 6.00 ERA and 1.70 WHIP on the road. His recent numbers are even more alarming: 21 earned runs and eight home runs allowed in 17⅔ innings.
St. Louis counters with Kyle Leahy, who owns a 2.95 ERA at home and has surrendered only two homers across 55 home innings.

Murphy doesn’t believe the starting-pitching gap between Minnesota’s Zebby Matthews and Milwaukee’s Shane Drohan warrants such a substantial price.
The bullpen situation could also work in Minnesota’s favor. Murphy notes that the Twins enter with their relief corps in good shape, while Milwaukee could be without two key relievers after they worked on consecutive days.
At +157, Minnesota offers significant potential return if the matchup is closer than the market price suggests.

John Martin expects offense when Houston and San Diego meet Friday night.
San Diego has scored at least four runs in six of its previous seven games, while Houston has reached four runs in 12 of its last 15.
The starting pitching provides another reason for Martin’s Over position.
Houston’s Ronel Blanco has surrendered 12 earned runs and five home runs in 14⅔ innings this season. San Diego’s Robbie Ray, meanwhile, has allowed 13 earned runs and six homers over his last 10⅔ innings against Houston.
Martin believes both offenses can contribute enough to push this game past the number.
